Q&As
-
Can we hold a symbolic ceremony at Domaine le Mezo?
Yes. The symbolic ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors, depending on your wishes and the season: the estate has many spaces with different atmospheres. You choose its order and readings, in English, French or both. The team helps you build the program around this moment, with remote planning and a bilingual welcome on site, from the first call to the day itself.
-
Can we organize a wedding over several days at the estate?
Yes. Your guests stay on site, so the wedding can stretch over several days: arrivals, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception, then a farewell brunch. The main reception hall seats up to 350 guests, and the evening can carry on in the club. The team builds the program with you.
-
Does the team at Domaine le Mezo speak English?
Yes, the team in charge of weddings works in French and in English. You talk to us in English while planning your event, and your guests find people on site who speak their language. Your ceremony can be held in English, in French or in both languages.
-
How do I get to Domaine le Mezo from Ireland?
From Dublin, allow about 1 hour 40 of flight to Nantes, then about 1 hour 15 by train or car to the estate. You can also go through Paris, then take the train to Vannes in about 2 hours 30. Vannes station is around ten minutes from the estate.
-
How many guests can stay at the estate?
The estate has over 100 rooms and can house up to 250 guests across the Château, the Farm Houses and the other accommodation. For guests who have traveled far, that means being in the same place from the first evening to the brunch, with no hotel to find and no shuttles to arrange.
Why get married in France when you live in Ireland?
Getting married in France from Ireland means going far from everyday life without any jet lag, since the time difference is only one hour. South Brittany adds a familiar Celtic heritage. Domaine le Mezo lies 10 minutes from the Gulf of Morbihan, in a 25-hectare park with three ponds and century-old trees.
The Château brings the whole celebration together on one estate, from the ceremony to the next day. Our presentation of the Domaine shows the estate in more detail.
For a Franco-Irish couple, France puts both families in the same place, with a stay everyone shares from start to finish.
How can you plan a symbolic ceremony from Ireland?
At Domaine le Mezo, the symbolic ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors, in one of the estate’s many spaces with different atmospheres, depending on the season. The order and the readings are yours, in English, French or both, and music, readings or speeches from your relatives can find their place.
The civil marriage follows its own procedures: check with your town hall or consulate.
With only an hour of time difference, remote planning stays simple: exchanges with the team fit easily around your schedule.
How can you blend Irish and French traditions on your wedding day?
You plan your wedding in English or French with a bilingual team, and your guests find people on site who understand them. A Happy planner is with you from the first conversation to the big day.
The two traditions fit together easily. In the French way, the vin d’honneur (the drinks reception after the ceremony) comes before the meal, then the evening carries on in the estate’s club, with its dance floor and DJ area. If music, songs or speeches hold a special place in your families’ celebrations, tell the team from the first conversations so they get the right moment in the programme. Staying on site also lets the celebration run into the next day, over lunch or brunch.
Naming one contact person in each family for practical questions lets you savour your wedding. Our page about family celebrations at the estate offers more ideas.
How do you plan a multi-day wedding for guests travelling from Ireland?
With only one hour of time difference, the stay can be tightened into a long weekend: arrivals on Friday, a symbolic ceremony and a reception on Saturday, a farewell lunch on Sunday. Those who want to see more of the region can arrive a few days early.
Accommodation is on the estate. The couple and their closest relatives settle into the Château, families who travel together into the 7 Farm Houses, and groups of friends into the lofts, yurts or lodges. Our page about large-group accommodation sets out the options.
Between the main moments, your guests can explore the region, from sailing on the Gulf of Morbihan to the standing stones of Carnac.
How can you introduce your guests to French gastronomy?
A French meal is part of the journey for your Irish guests. At La Table du Mezo, which holds 2 toques in the Gault & Millau guide, short-supply-chain Breton produce follows the seasons, and some of it comes from the estate’s kitchen garden. Vincent Thomas and Kevin Gatin cook there alongside pastry chef Franck Geuffroy.
Tell the team early about your guests’ diets and intolerances, and about the dishes that matter to your families. A scouting trip to France is a good moment to plan the tasting.
