Q&As
-
Can we hold a symbolic ceremony at Domaine le Mezo?
Yes. The symbolic ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors, depending on your wishes and the season: the estate has many spaces with different atmospheres. You choose its order and readings, in English, French or both. The team helps you build the program around this moment, with remote planning and a bilingual welcome on site, from the first call to the day itself.
-
Can we organize a wedding over several days at the estate?
Yes. Your guests stay on site, so the wedding can stretch over several days: arrivals, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception, then a farewell brunch. The main reception hall seats up to 350 guests, and the evening can carry on in the club. The team builds the program with you.
-
Does the team at Domaine le Mezo speak English?
Yes, the team in charge of weddings works in French and in English. You talk to us in English while planning your event, and your guests find people on site who speak their language. Your ceremony can be held in English, in French or in both languages.
-
How do I get to Domaine le Mezo from the UK?
From London, allow about 1 hour 30 of flight to Nantes, then about 1 hour 15 by train or car to the estate. You can also reach Paris, then take the train to Vannes in about 2 hours 30, with the station around ten minutes from the estate.
-
How many guests can stay at the estate?
The estate has over 100 rooms and can house up to 250 guests across the Château, the Farm Houses and the other accommodation. For guests who have traveled far, that means being in the same place from the first evening to the brunch, with no hotel to find and no shuttles to arrange.
Why get married in France when you live in the UK?
For a British couple, France stays within reach by train or boat, with only an hour of time difference. Domaine le Mezo, in South Brittany, stands in a 25-hectare park with three ponds and century-old trees, 10 minutes from the Gulf of Morbihan.
The Château brings the whole wedding together on one estate, from the ceremony to the next day’s lunch. The estate is presented in more detail on our page about the Domaine.
For a Franco-British couple, the Channel separates the two families, and a stay at the estate brings them together on one site for a weekend.
How can you plan a symbolic ceremony from the UK?
The estate has many spaces with different atmospheres, indoors and outdoors, so the symbolic ceremony can be held to suit the season. You choose its order and readings, in English, French or both.
The civil marriage follows its own procedures: check with your town hall or consulate.
For British relatives, it opens a day that continues with the meal, then the evening in the estate’s club, all on the same site.
How can you bring two families and two traditions together on your wedding day?
Two languages, one team: the estate’s team is bilingual and answers you in English as in French, from planning to the wedding day. Your Happy planner stays your point of contact throughout the project.
The traditions of both countries sit well together. On the British side, the wedding breakfast, the meal followed by the speeches, often anchors the day. On the French side, the vin d’honneur (the drinks reception after the ceremony) opens the celebration, and the evening carries on in the estate’s club, with its dance floor and DJ area. Hand your relatives’ practical questions to one contact person per family, and keep your mind free. For more ideas, see our page about family celebrations at the estate.
How do you plan a multi-day wedding for guests travelling from the UK?
At many British weddings, some guests come for the meal and others only for the evening. At the estate, the stay lasts several days and keeps the same group together from start to finish: arrivals on Friday, a symbolic ceremony and a reception on Saturday, a farewell lunch on Sunday.
Everyone sleeps on site. The Château houses the couple and their closest relatives. The 7 Farm Houses suit families travelling together, while the lofts, yurts and lodges work for groups of friends. You will find the details on our page about large-group accommodation.
Free days lend themselves to discovering the region, from kayaking on the Gulf of Morbihan to the alignments of Carnac.
How can you introduce your guests to French gastronomy?
For guests travelling from the UK, the meal is part of the getaway. The cuisine at La Table du Mezo, which holds 2 toques in the Gault & Millau guide, follows the seasons and relies on short-supply-chain Breton produce. Yann, the head gardener, looks after the estate’s kitchen garden. At the stoves, Vincent Thomas and Kevin Gatin collaborate with pastry chef Franck Geuffroy.
Your guests’ diets and intolerances are best shared early, together with the dishes that matter to your families. If you organise a scouting trip, the tasting can be added then.
